I feel like sexual content is where there problem is as well, and yet that also occurs in 'serious' fiction (often in far more problematic ways!), so I guess they just don't like romance and chick-lit because it's too low-brow. Maybe they stuck up the guidelines and never really revised them or talked them through but, whatever their reasoning, it's sad. I wonder if it's because they think some romance themes could be triggering to some people? But then I'm not sure why chicklit would also be declined and why crime fiction wouldn't be on the list.
